SQCP is a boutique recruitment solutions consultancy founded in 1984 which focusses on providing the best recruitment solutions to our clients’ needs, whilst helping our candidates to further develop their careers and knowledge base.

SQCP is not your typical recruitment business. We are a privately owned SME company founded in 1984 by Bernie Potton in response to what he felt at the time was a recruitment industry that was failing to put candidates and clients first. The best way to describe the key attributes of our recruitment teams is service-driven, integrity initiative, attention to detail, determination, capability and compassion.
Our people are our most important Resource: All function independently, yet are dependent upon one another for overall achievement and success. They are experts in their chosen fields, chosen for the results they are able to achieve. Bernie Potton – Managing Director
Initial founder of SQ in 1984 and majority shareholder today. Solid IT technical background on mainframes, PCs, Unix and AS400s and extensive business knowledge in the Unit Trust sector.
Trained by Lloyds Bank as a trainee programmer (IBM mainframes) in the seventies, Bernie worked as a contractor in Saudi Arabia for 3 years, then BP for 7 years, then changed personal career direction into Unit Trusts at the end of the eighties. Bernie worked at Premier Unit Trusts (now Mellon) for 2 years, implemented Threads and all interfaces and surrounding systems for Schroder Unit Trusts, carried out the first external conversion for the RuFuS team (Woolwich), and worked as a project manager, account manager and senior designer on EFDS’s (now IFDS) FAST system.
He has also performed numerous consultancy and managed project assignments for many Unit Trust companies including his “This Idiot’s Guide to Unit Trusts” introduction lecture to new staff members etc. He ceased full-time contracting in 1995 to concentrate on SQ’s growth and now works full-time on SQ (when not in the pub “networking”, as he insists on calling it!).
David Ward – Director
David Ward is a member of the Board of Directors of SQCP. Along with his role of directing SQCP’s sales & operations, he is active in Financial Services IT & Business Change recruitment, through managing the relationships with some of SQ’s core accounts and generating new business for the company.

Caroline Cooke – Director
Caroline joined the Accounts Department of SQ in January 1998, bringing with her previous managerial/customer service experience and a joint honours degree in English and Sociology.
Initially she planned on staying just a few months, but our MD Bernie can be very persuasive (especially if you go the pub with him intending on having just one beer!) and she is still here several years later…
Soon after joining, Caroline was promoted to Office Manager/Managing Director’s PA and has proved instrumental in transforming, Accounts, Administration and HR within SQ.
The Sociology part of her degree has proved to be invaluable when having to socialise with contractors/clients and Bernie has been instrumental in that area and obviously spotted that potential early on!
Caroline was promoted to Director in 2006, due to her continuous length of service, outstanding commitment,work and dedication to the company and can be seen most weekends on her yacht in Marbella! (Here’s hoping!)
Jamie Sears – Director
Possessing over two decades of recruitment expertise within the Transfer Agency and Wealth/WRAP platform industry, both my team and I have the necessary expertise and deep knowledge required to assist with financial services focused business change, sales & marketing, risk & compliance and technology requirements.
Typically this covers IFA’s, Products, Platforms/Platform Technology Providers, Fund Managers, Transfer Agency, Third Party Administration, Asset Managers, Stockbrokers and Custodians.
